What is a Big Brother or Big Sister?
Big Brothers and Big Sisters are caring adults who are mentors to children, often from single parent homes. Men and women from all backgrounds help guide their Little Brothers and Little Sisters toward bright futures by sharing life experiences. "Bigs" and "Littles" enjoy school work, sports, recreational activities, movies, museums, and just talking together. In a nutshell, a Big is a friend.

What does it take to be a Big?
Any volunteer who can commit time on a regular basis is the candidate we seek. Professionally trained staff screen all applicants thoroughly before "matching" them with waiting children, and consistent agency support is given to the volunteer, child and child’s parent/guardian. Being a Big means listening to and learning from your Little, but most of all it means being there.

Do Bigs really make a difference?
Statistics from the BBBSA Impact Study, conducted by research firm Public/Private Ventures in 1995, showed that Little Brothers and Little Sisters were: 46% less likely to start using drugs and 27% less likely to start drinking; 52% less likely to skip a day of school and 37% less likely to skip a class; 33% less likely to hit someone and generally more trusting of their parents or guardians.
