WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?

In March & April Big Brothers Big Sisters will be holding our biggest fundraiser, Bowl For Kids Sake. No doubt many of you are well aware of Bowl For Kids Sake, and how important it is to Big Brothers Big Sisters. Many of you have been wonderful supporters in the past of this event, and there is no doubt many of you will be involved this year as well. But do you know where the money goes? Do you know how Bowl For Kids Sake actually helps us help kids?

Big Brothers Big Sisters has a number of expenses that are incurred in the operation of the agency, and the funds raised through  Bowl for Kids Sake  help us cover those costs . For example, Big Brothers Big Sisters covers four counties, which encompass over 2,600 square miles, so the staff does quite a bit of traveling. In fact on a monthly basis the staff drives upwards of 1,500 miles to travel to site-based programs, enrollment interviews, meetings with other agencies, recruitment events, and training seminars.

We also use funds raised from Bowl For Kids Sake to assure the safety of the children. The background checks and safety measures we take cost, and must be done for every match. We are also running seven site-based programs, so we are also a mobile activity center. Each of these programs needs supplies for games and activities, as well as snacks and refreshments for the children, some of whom don’t eat anything else. When you factor in holiday parties and different events the tab really adds up.

In a nutshell Bowl For Kids Sake is important because it helps this agency care for the costs of operating, which in turn allows us to reach out to the kids in this area who need the influence you and us provide together.
